The red panda, star of the latest Pixar movie “Red Alert,” doesn’t just eat bamboo leaves. The proof is “congee”, an authentic Chinese breakfast, with this beautifully decorated rice bowl.
Director Domi Shi inevitably seduced us Bao, His short film, made in 2018, made us follow the adventures of a delicious little anthropomorphic steamed broach. In the title of Red Alert, available only on Disney + without going to the cinema box, he also shows his taste for baos on the table of the young Meilin Lee (call her Mei like everyone else), the heroine of the film .
It all starts well, however, as Mei, 13, a student at a Toronto college where she excels at math, has a group of girlfriends who are just as much a fan of boy bands as she is. An only child, he is adored by his father (who cooks delicious Chinese food) and his mother, Ming, who is voiced by actress Sandra Oh. Problem: One fine morning, she wakes up no longer as a teenager, but as a big furry red panda that’s damn huge. He then discovers the family curse that befell the females in his family at puberty from his ancestor Sun Ye. With each strong emotion, it transforms… Intelligent but troublesome and fragrant, what to do with the red panda inside each of us?
